My Märklin Crocodiles:

The term "crocodile" was as far as I know first used for the SBB Be/Ce 6/8II and 6/8III locomotives. It referred to the locomotive's ends resemblance with a crocodile snout. Later this term is also used for other "three-piece" locomotives, like the DRG and DB E94/194.
